JD.com Enhances Delivery Rider Welfare Packages to Build Confidence
On March 28, under the guidance of multiple departments including the National Medical Insurance Administration (NMA) and All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), JD Waimai held a signing ceremony with representatives from its new batch of full-time delivery riders. It also initiated an initiative titled 'Enhancing Rights Protection for New Employment Forms Workers Such as Delivery Riders,' calling on all sectors to jointly improve social security benefits such as the five insurances and one fund, ensuring that more workers can enjoy secure retirement and medical care.

At the ceremony site, representatives from NMA and ACFTU highly praised JD's long-standing emphasis on employee rights protection. In early this year, JD announced it would provide full-time delivery riders with social security benefits including five insurances and one fund at its own expense while offering accident insurance and health medical insurance to part-timers. This move has been widely recognized by the industry and society.

Zhang Chengguang, Deputy Director of Regulations Department under NMA stated: "The administration is willing to work with various new employment form platforms to promote labor participation in social security."

Under guidance from relevant government departments at all levels, JD Waimai launched an initiative for its sector. The report of the 20th CPC National Congress clearly pointed out that efforts should be made to strengthen rights protection for flexible and new forms workers, providing a clear direction for industry development.

Delivery riders have become important forces in employment absorption and public service provision; their welfare is not only about individual dignity but also social equity and sustainable industrial growth. JD Waimai pledged it would enhance delivery rider benefits from multiple aspects including job security, employee perks, humanistic care, career choice, skill training to improve the well-being of its riders.

As a pioneer in directly signing labor contracts with full-time delivery workers and providing them with five insurances and one fund at company expense, JD Waimai called on all sectors to promote compliant employment practices. Platforms should sign direct labor agreements with their full-time delivery staff and provide social security benefits for these employees, continuously weaving the safety net of new forms worker's welfare.

On March 28th, over eighty full-time riders from Beijing, Tianjin, Chongqing, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Wuhan, among other cities gathered at JD headquarters. They were representatives from various provinces and municipalities who expressed their excitement about joining JD Waimai.

Liu 甯堝倕 (a delivery rider in Shenzhen for seven years) became a full-time employee of JD's platform recently; he was very grateful: "I earned up to 30,000 yuan per month at the peak time. In three years I saved quite some money." When learning that JD would provide social security benefits including five insurances and one fund for delivery riders first in its industry, Liu 甯堝倕 expressed his gratitude.

Shi甯堝倕 (a rider from Beijing Daxing District) along with her husband both became full-time employees of JD Waimai. Shi甯堝倕 said: "JD provides the five insurances and one fund to all full-time riders at company expense; even personal contributions are covered by us, which is unprecedented in our industry! Previously my family paid for social security ourselves every month costing thousands each time."

Meng甯堝倕 (a rider from Shenyang) who used to be an employee of a corporation with 18 years' experience under the five insurances and one fund system expressed his gratitude: "When I heard JD would provide full-time delivery riders with all necessary insurance benefits, even covering personal contributions, it was hard for me to believe. Now that we have this in place, my retirement will be more secure."

JD Waimai has signed formal labor contracts with over 10,000 full-time employees since March 1st and is gradually implementing the payment of five insurances and one fund benefits; they plan on expanding their workforce further.
