In late April, a wave of new smartphones prioritizing performance entered the market, including the Honor GT Pro, OnePlus 13T, and Redmi Turbo 4 Pro. The OnePlus 13T showcases its compact design and high performance, achieving an Antutu score exceeding 3,030,000 points. The Redmi Turbo 4 Pro similarly emphasizes its power with a score surpassing 2,400,000. The Honor GT Pro promotes its capabilities, touting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Ultra processor and improvements in battery life and refresh rate.

As differentiation becomes increasingly challenging, the debate over screen size has intensified. Wang Teng, General Manager of the Xiaomi China Market Department and Redmi Brand, publicly criticized the trend toward smaller screens, arguing that larger displays facilitate better gaming experiences and accommodate larger batteries. He suggested that consumers opting for smaller screens prioritize design and ergonomics over raw performance.

Wang’s comments followed the launch of the OnePlus 13T, which features a 6.32-inch OLED screen and an impressive battery capacity exceeding 6000mAh. In contrast, the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro focuses on performance, incorporating the fourth-generation Snapdragon 8s processor alongside a 6.83-inch display, a large battery, and an advanced cooling system. The Honor GT Pro also recently released a new model with high-end specifications.

This competition essentially reflects the ongoing rivalry between Redmi and OnePlus. The intense competition surrounding smartphone models has fueled heated discussions on social media platforms like Weibo. With continued market growth in China, companies are increasingly concentrating on niche markets and differentiated strategies.

According to IDC data for Q1 2025, the Chinese smartphone market experienced a 3.3% year-on-year increase, with Xiaomi leading the market once again after ten years. The debate over screen size exemplifies the increasingly competitive nature of the smartphone industry.
