On April 16th, SpaceX鈥檚 Crew Dragon spacecraft delivered four astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS), enabling two veteran NASA astronauts who had been stranded for over nine months to finally return home.
According to reports by AFP and Reuters, live broadcast footage showed crew members embracing their ISS counterparts in a weightless environment around GMT 5:45 am. The Crew-10 mission鈥檚 Dragon spacecraft successfully docked with the International Space Station at GMT 4:04 on April 16th after approximately 29 hours of travel from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
The four new arrivals were welcomed by seven ISS crew members, including veteran NASA astronauts and retired US Navy test pilots Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams. Due to issues with Boeing鈥檚 Starliner that resulted in an unmanned return of the spacecraft last September, both Wilmore and Williams had been stranded on the station since then.
Wilmore and Williams are scheduled to depart from ISS at GMT 8:00 am on April 19th alongside NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov. The latter two arrived in September of last year aboard a Crew Dragon, which included empty seats reserved for Wilmore and Williams.
The crew of the six-month Crew-10 mission includes NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, Japanese astronaut Takuya Onishi, and Russian cosmonaut Kirill Peskov.
