At this year's Smart City Expo, Chunghwa Telecom underscored the central role of artificial intelligence (AI) in a range of smart applications, including data analysis, image recognition, network security, and intelligent transportation.
Regarding data centers, Chunghwa Telecom is transitioning to AIDC (Artificial Intelligence + Internet Data Center), demonstrating advanced immersion cooling technology at the expo. This technique effectively reduces Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) within data centers鈥攁 critical factor in addressing the high energy consumption associated with AI computing tasks. General Manager Lin Rong-ji also emphasized a distributed data center architecture, connecting regional facilities through an all-optical network to enhance computational efficiency and distribute power loads.
Lin noted that Chunghwa Telecom鈥檚 telecommunications infrastructure enables support for smart applications by large enterprises and government agencies via 5G private networks and full optical networking technology. This allows businesses to utilize remote GPUs for AI model training under secure data access conditions, ensuring regulatory compliance while improving computing performance.
The company highlighted its work in intelligent healthcare through collaborations with multiple hospitals and national medical associations. They have developed an AI pathology voice recognition system that automatically identifies patient oral information鈥攕upporting Mandarin, Taiwanese Hokkien, English, Vietnamese, Thai, among other languages鈥攖o improve record-keeping accuracy and efficiency.
Furthermore, Chunghwa Telecom launched a telemedicine IoT solution for clinics and hospitals to build remote healthcare platforms enabling patients to conduct online consultations via simple web links. The system integrates mobile payments, medical data analysis, and AI-assisted diagnosis, providing an all-in-one telehealthcare solution.
Chunghua Telecom is also contributing to smart emergency ambulance services by leveraging AI data analytics and remote monitoring technology. This allows paramedics to obtain patient health information before arrival at a hospital, assisting healthcare teams in making faster diagnoses.
