At a recent special shareholders' meeting, Gree Electric Appliances elected Dong Mingzhu as chairwoman and Zhang Wei as president. During the meeting, Dong Mingzhu, in a pointed critique of her long-time competitor Xiaomi, highlighted Gree’s established track record in electric vehicles, stating that Gree’s electric buses have been operating on Beijing’s “Line One” for over a decade without incident, demonstrating their technological capabilities.
Reports indicate that all vehicles on Line One have utilized Gree’s Tiger model since 2018. Despite facing initial challenges, Xiaomi’s car sales are showing improvement, increasing by nearly 14% week-over-week and exceeding 7,100 units, which has allowed them to reclaim a position among China’s top three new-energy vehicle manufacturers. Analysts anticipate that Xiaomi will remain a favored brand within China’s tech sector due to its inherent resilience against tariffs and the absence of ADR delisting risks.
Previously, in a live stream in March, Dong Mingzhu also criticized certain companies for capitalizing on market speculation and neglecting consumer responsibility, a remark widely interpreted as another jab at Xiaomi.
