LINE has recently addressed user feedback regarding its limitations on multi-device login, a feature that lags behind other messaging platforms. The app now allows Android phones and tablets (version 15.3.0 or later) to be registered as 'additional devices' for use with a single account after updating the software.
As announced by LINE (@LINEjp_official), users can add an Android device as a ‘secondary’ or additional device, enabling them to access their LINE account on multiple tablets alongside their smartphone: "Many of you have requested this! We now support multi-device login for LINE. Register your Android device as a 'sub terminal' and use the same LINE account across several devices ✨ Use LINE not just on your phone but also on your tablet🔻"
To add an additional device, follow these steps:
1. Open the LINE app on your Android device and select “Login.”
2. Choose to log in with an existing account by selecting "Additional Device," then click “Confirm."
3. You can choose between logging in via QR code or email address to use that Android tablet as a secondary device. (Source: LINE Blog)
With this update, users are permitted up to five simultaneous logins across different devices – one primary and four additional ones. The functionality of each login type differs; the main device is typically used for account registration—often on smartphones—and provides management features such as changing phone numbers or passwords. Secondary devices allow continued use but have some limitations, like restricted access to functionalities available on Apple Watches.
Notably, iPhones can only function as primary devices and cannot be designated as additional ones. While both iPads and Android phones are permitted simultaneous logins, this feature is not currently supported for Android tablets. (Source: LINE Support Center)

If you have concerns about how multiple-device login works with your LINE account or worry that switching devices might lead to issues like losing chat history or having accounts deleted due to concurrent use, proceed cautiously. (Lead image source: Shutterstock)
