Semiconductor Market Update: Global Revenue Projected to Rise 21% in 2024, NVIDIA Leads Industry

Global semiconductor revenue is projected to reach $655.9 billion in 2024, a growth of 21%, according to the latest report from research firm Gartner (顧能). For the first time, NVIDIA (輝達) has surpassed Samsung and Intel (英特爾) to become the world’s leading semiconductor company.
According to Gartner's final statistics, NVIDIA's revenue for semiconductors is expected to reach $76.9 billion in 2024, representing a growth of 120.1%. This significant increase propelled NVIDIA from third place in 2023 to the top spot this year. Samsung will maintain its second position with an anticipated revenue of $65.7 billion and a rise of 60.8%, while Intel’s revenue is projected at $49.8 billion, reflecting only a slight increase of 0.8%—a drop from first place in 2023 to third this year.
Gartner attributes these shifts primarily to increased demand for AI infrastructure and robust growth in memory chips. NVIDIA has significantly benefited from heightened GPU demands, enabling it to leapfrog into the position of world’s largest semiconductor company. Samsung maintained its second-place ranking thanks to rising prices of memory products; however, Intel faced intensified competition resulting in only modest revenue increases.
Gartner also noted that SK Hynix (SK海力士) experienced a 91.5% increase in revenues, reaching $44.2 billion and climbing from sixth place last year to fourth this year. Qualcomm’s revenue of $32.98 billion resulted in a one-position decline, while Broadcom's ($27.80 billion) also dropped by one position. Micron Technology (美光)’s revenue reached $27.61 billion—a jump up five positions from twelfth to seventh place last year—and AMD’s revenues stood at $24.13 billion, dropping two positions this year.
Apple's semiconductor business saw a decline in ranking, falling one position to ninth place, while MediaTek (聯發科) climbed three places into tenth position.
