In recent years, the esports display market has seen significant growth driven by continuous improvement in game ecosystems. During ChinaJoy 2024, TCL Huaxing CEO Zhao Jun expressed optimism about the esports market's prospects and predicted a compound annual growth rate of around 10% through to 2028.
The display business is now one of three key pillars for TCL Huaxing’s operations. This year alone, shipments of gaming displays grew by an impressive 20%, contributing more than half of the company’s revenue from its display products. Apart from TV panels and mobile phone screens, monitors (including gaming monitors, commercial displays, notebooks, and tablets) have become a third pillar for TCL Huaxing.
Five years ago, TCL Huaxing entered esports with its display products by acquiring Suzhou Samsung's eighth-generation line in 2021—now known as the t10 production lines—and investing in Guangzhou Base (t9 production lines). Starting from 2023, they began exploring OLED technology within their IT business sector. Collaborating with domestic and international clients on premium notebook computers and tablets, TCL Huaxing now covers a range of production capabilities including amorphous silicon to IGZO as well as LTPS and OLED.
Zhao Jun stated that in terms of future technology layout and manufacturing expansion for the IT business, they aim “to turn our IT business into a significant growth driver within China's display industry.”
While focusing on internal development, TCL Huaxing has also strengthened its collaboration across the entire supply chain. Zhao noted: "In displays like esports monitors, there are many upstream and downstream links involved; these aren't just single linear stages but rather an ecological concept." With products becoming more diverse and consumer needs increasingly differentiated, he stated that “the era where a standardized product could dominate has passed.” In response to this challenge, TCL Huaxing's strategy is to collaborate with the ecosystem for technological innovation and agile development.
At ChinaJoy 2024, TCL Huaxing showcased collaborative products developed in partnership with Lenovo and TPV (AOC). Zhao explained that they are developing current generation models while simultaneously working on next-generation ones. He added: “Our focus isn’t just today’s product but what the market will need one or two years from now.”
TCL Huaxing expects its esports products to grow by around 10% in 2023, driven by continuous upgrades and competitive pricing strategies. Zhao is optimistic about this industry's continued rapid development until 2028.
