Trump Tariff Pause Boosts Afforestation Stocks
On April 9, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a temporary pause on reciprocal tariffs scheduled to take effect that day. This decision particularly benefited American fintech companies reliant on domestic consumption; notably, Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) giant Affirm saw its stock price rebound sharply by over 21% after dropping nearly 3% the previous day.

According to CNBC reports, Trump鈥檚 announcement effectively alleviated immediate economic concerns related to tariffs impacting U.S. consumers and spurred a broader surge in fintech stocks. Goldman Sachs had previously estimated that increased tariffs could lead to a decline of more than 22% in Affirm's net income if domestic demand were significantly affected.

The original plan called for reciprocal tariffs to take effect on April 9; however, Trump unexpectedly announced via his social media platform Truth Social later the same day a postponement of these measures for ninety days. In contrast, China faced an increase from its existing tariff rate of 104% up to 125%, attributed to what was described as uncooperative behavior and exploitation.

In response to Trump鈥檚 announcement regarding tariffs, Affirm's main competitor in BNPL services鈥擲wedish company Klarna鈥攄ecided on April 9th to postpone its planned U.S. IPO until market conditions stabilize further.
