Trump's Tariffs Could Influence Taiwan's Stock Market as Authorities Readiness Increases
Trump鈥檚 tough measures on reciprocal tariffs have caused substantial turmoil in global financial markets. On March 3rd, US stocks plummeted with the Dow Jones Industrial Average falling by 1679.39 points鈥攖he largest single-day decline since June 2020鈥攁nd S&P 500 experiencing its biggest one-day drop of that year; Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) ADRs fell over 7%, suggesting a potential sharp downturn for the Taiwanese stock market when it opens on March 7th.

The uncertainty caused by Trump鈥檚 tariffs continues to disrupt global markets. Since early this year, Taiwan's stocks have fallen more than one thousand points. The FSC stated that they will take corresponding actions if these measures excessively impact market stability.

According to a survey conducted by TWSE based on the top thirty goods exported to America listed by MOF, their revenues account for only 2.74% of the total consolidated revenue of all publicly traded companies in Taiwan for fiscal year 2024. However, Trump鈥檚 announcement exceeded expectations and shocked global markets with more severe impacts than initially anticipated.

The National Stabilization Fund was originally scheduled to hold a regular meeting on April 14th but may convene an emergency session due to the unexpected severity of tariffs announced by Trump that have caused global stock market declines. The possibility of intervention from the NSFund is closely watched.
