According to media reports, three U.S. Democratic senators urged the White House on Monday (April 24th) to seek congressional authorization for extending ByteDance's deadline for selling TikTok or face a ban of this video-sharing app.

In a letter addressed to Trump, Senators Ed Markey, Chris Van Hollen, and Cory Booker wrote: "Failing to enforce the ban on TikTok not only violates the law but also raises serious questions about its future in America as companies that help keep it operational face penalties of up to $85 billion under this legislation."
The extension granted by Trump's executive order will expire on April 5, and given that a qualified divestiture process is unlikely to be completed before then, senators are urging the White House to work with Congress to allow TikTok鈥檚 continued operation. They hope President Trump would instruct Senate Republicans to pass Democratic-sponsored legislation extending the deadline for TikTok until October 16th, 2025.
