On September 22, 2023 (referred to as 113 in some contexts), and again on January 22, 2024 (114), the second submarine cable connecting Taiwan and Matsu experienced partial core line breaks. A complete break occurred approximately 30 kilometers from Danshui on February 16, 2024 (114). Communication between Taiwan and Matsu was immediately rerouted to a full-bandwidth backup microwave transmission system, ensuring uninterrupted service.

Chunghwa Telecom reported that an international submarine cable repair ship completed repairs on the third Taiwan-Matsu cable on March 2nd before proceeding directly to address damage to the second cable in waters off Danshui and Dongyin. Both damaged sections were repaired by morning on March 14th, restoring communication between Taiwan and Matsu via dual submarine cables for improved service quality; microwave transmission remains available as a full-bandwidth backup.
