A reporter from China Science Daily recently visited the Houma North Vehicle Depot of the Taiyuan Bureau Group Co., Ltd. of China Railway to investigate the functionality of their ‘Electric Vehicle Charging Remote Monitoring and Alarm Control System,’ which received a 2024 National Utility Model Patent.

The system integrates intelligent circuit breakers, fire and smoke detectors, thermal cameras, and time switches, combining industrial Modbus-RTU communication protocol with LoRa wireless technology. In the event that the temperature or smoke level within an electric vehicle storage area exceeds predetermined thresholds, the system automatically triggers alarms, interrupts power supply, and activates sprinklers to mitigate potential risks.

Furthermore, the system monitors electric vehicle batteries for leakage, swelling, and electrical faults, providing timely replacement warnings to prevent fires during charging.

Currently, the system has been implemented in 11 electric vehicle parking sheds at the Houma North Vehicle Depot and has successfully detected five instances of safety concerns related to batteries or chargers.
